Each month the yards in our subdivision are judged. If the resident of the one that is considered to have the best display has not won the award within the last two years, is in good standing with the Association and agrees to accept the accolade, it is designated as the Yard-of-the-Month. A sign is placed in that yard throughout the duration of the month, a photograph and write-up are posted here on this web site and on the My Neighborhood News website - which is the successor to our montly newsletter.

March Winner - Suzanne Sherrill at 22438 Unicorn’s Horn Lane

After the freezing weather in February many annuals and cold sensitive plants in the front yards of homes in the Williamsburg Settlement were affected. However, there are a few homes that look unscathed by the winter weather, and one of those belongs to Suzanne Sherrill at 22438 Unicorn’s Horn Lane!

Suzanne, a former teacher at Winborn Elementary, has lived in the neighborhood for 42 years and 10 months and has seen neighbors come and go on her street, but still remain friends despite the distance. From the sound of it, Unicorn’s Horn Lane is the street to live on, since they throw their own cozy block parties and neighborhood mixers.

Although she hires a team to mow and edge, Suzanne does everything else herself. Her front yard still has three original pines, and azaleas line the front of her dining room window. The Sherrill family also planted an additional pine and were blessed with a volunteer Oak tree to provide the shade their house needs from the hot summer sun. The ever-versatile grass, Liriope, was planted by Suzanne; this grass adds texture and color with its purple flowers when in bloom and can be utilized in both shaded or sunny yards.

Of all her well-maintained evergreens in the front yard, her favorite are the white Azaleas, which are original with the house. “They have been here since before we bought the house 42+ years (ago), and they are still producing beautiful flowers.”

Please join me in thanking Suzanne for adding to the charm of the Williamsburg Settlement and for accepting the Yard of Month for March 2026!
April Winner - Frank and Janice Hosak at 22307 Bucktrout Lane

We would like to congratulate the yard of the month winners for April Frank and Janis Hosak of 22307 Bucktrout Ln. Frank and Janis have lived in the settlement since 1979 (a short 47 years) their house was in section 2 and Bucktrout Lane pavement stopped at their driveway with barricades across the street.

They were drawn to the neighborhood because they like living in a small community. The school district was great for raising and educating their two daughters and they like the central location near I-10, Especially being able to be from the driveway to I-10 in less than five minutes.

While they employ a landscaper for mowing and edging, Frank does the planting replanting and rearranging of the layout of their landscape in recent years they did have some help with clean out for the beds and mulching with pine bark mulch and nuggets, which is the same they’ve used since they’ve moved in. The original landscape layout was designed by Cornelius’s nursery. They tweaked it, rearranged it replanted new plants several times and they added the Oak trees to shade the yard and the house. Most recently they replaced the bed edging with stacked stone, which is lovely.

Their front landscaping includes azaleas, Varigated Pittosporum, Dwarf Yaupon Holly, Loropetalum, Indian Hawthorne, Cuban gold Duranta, Pigmy date palms, Foxtails and Faux lilies. They fill in the foxtail fern and lilies and bedding plants for color. These plants do well in the weather, although some of their plants do you have to be protected for the freeze but if covered they will bounce back in the spring.

Janis’a Favorites are the azaleas and Foxtel Fern Frank likes the bright gold green color that the Cuban gold Dorrantas provide.

Jenna is retired from a banking career, and Frank is a semi retired, mechanical project engineer, With their free time if they’re not in the yard, they love spending time with their four granddaughters!

This is not the first time you will Have seen the Hosak’s yard being spotlighted. With great attention to detail and a beautiful display every Christmas we are very lucky to have such a stunning addition to the neighborhood. Thank you, Frank and Janis for giving us something beautiful to look at!!

Congratulations Frank and Janis!!
